The TEDS Report Data Spotlight: Trends in substances of abuse among pregnant women and women of childbearing age in treatment

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration – 2013

A brief summary of data on drug and alcohol use among pregnant women and women of childbearing age (ages 15-44) who are in substance abuse treatment programs. Reports that among pregnant women, reports of alcohol abuse have decreased from 46.6% in 2000 to 34.8% in 2010. However, reports of drug abuse in this population have increased from 51.1% in 2000 to 63.8% in 2010. There is a similar pattern for non-pregnant female treatment admissions. Notes the need to increase drug abuse prevention efforts for this population.
