Attorney General’s National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence – 2012
Presents a series of recommendations that address the problem of children’s exposure to violence. Report contains an overview of the extent and consequences of the problem, with chapters that elaborate on each recommendation in detail. Recommendations address: ending the epidemic of children exposed to violence; identifying children exposed to violence; treatment and healing of exposure to violence; creating safe and nurturing homes; communities rising up out of violence; rethinking our juvenile justice system. Emphasizes the importance of evidence-based, trauma-informed mental health treatment for children exposed to violence. Also discusses the importance of collaborative response among law enforcement, mental health, child welfare, and court professionals when children are exposed to family violence and abuse. Notes the need to address exposure to violence and resulting trauma among youth in the juvenile justice system.
