Child Protection Model Law: Best legal practices: Protection of the child’s best interests

A draft version of an international Child Protection Model Law, designed to protect children’s best interests from any negative effect, including neglect, abuse, maltreatment, and exploitation. Contains articles on such issues as reporting obligations, right to safe accommodation, principles of alternative care, and children’s access to justice. Also include articles on family and state responsibilities, children with disabilities, child trafficking and sexual exploitation, child work and economic exploitation, children in armed conflict, refugee and migrant children, court proceedings, and child crime. Article on narcotic drugs and harmful substances includes information on protection of children from the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, the use of children in illicit drug activity (and exposure to drug activity), and the prevention of substance abuse.
