Presents data on family and social environment, including family composition, mother’s marital status, teenage pregnancy, language spoken in the home, and child maltreatment cases. Section on economic circumstances notes that child poverty continues to rise. Section on physical environment and safety contains data on children’s exposure to second-hand smoke, violent crime victimization, and child death rates. Contains a section on high-risk behaviors that includes data on adolescent illicit drug use, cigarette smoking, and alcohol use. Section on health includes statistics on preterm births and low birth weight, as well as emotional and behavioral health data.
