Evaluates home visiting programs for Native families implemented under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Tribal Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Grant Program. Describes the benefits of home visiting programs and provides an overview of the review process. Summarizes program models and their target outcomes in areas such as child health and development, school readiness, and parenting practices. Includes information on program frequency and duration, target population, location of services and implementing agency, and home visitor qualifications and training. Describes the importance of adapting or developing culturally relevant home visiting program models. Strategies include involving tribal leaders, employing tribal staff, and building on community strengths. Service delivery challenges include recruitment and attrition, ensuring program fidelity while modifying programs to meet tribal requirements, rural locations, and pressing family needs of food, clothing and shelter. Recommends research to support tribal home visiting program model development and implementation as well as research to test effectiveness of program models.
