Trafficking in Persons Report 2020 [20th Edition]

This annual report provides information and statistics on human trafficking around the world. This year’s report looks into the evolution of the report itself over the past 20 years. Since the passage of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) in 2000. It begins with background information on the TVPA, describes how the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report has evolved in both substance and design, reviews the annual TIP report process., and explains the impact of the TIP report. A definition of human trafficking is provided. The following topics of special interest are then examined: trauma bonding in human trafficking; accountability for UN Peacekeepers; faith-based efforts to combat human trafficking; human trafficking of athletes; extraterritorial commercial child sexual exploitation and abuse and improving responses; re-engineering health care for survivors of human trafficking; and the intersection of human trafficking and addiction. The next sections list countries that are in violation of the Child Soldiers Prevention Act, profile heroes in the fight against human trafficking in 2020, and explain the methodology used by the U.S. Department of State to place each country onto one of four tiers ranked by the incidence of human trafficking. The rankings are based on the on the extent of government efforts to meet the TVPA’s minimum standards for the elimination of human trafficking Charts identify whether a country is on Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 2 Watch List, and Tier 3. Country narratives are provided and global law enforcement data is reported.
