Results of a research project on black children and families. 76% of survey respondents cite drugs as a serious problem in the black community, 73% cite lack of parental responsibility, and 44% cite child abuse. Other problems include unemployment, teenage pregnancy, violence, and poor schools. A majority of respondents report concern over children’s exposure to drugs, addiction, drug-related violence, and drug-related crime. Suggested strategies to improve conditions for children include improved health care, education, and parental support programs. Notes need for positive changes to black communities and families.
