This 13-minute videotape recording features Dr. Deborah Bergeron interviewing Dr. Sangeeta Parikshak, a social science analyst at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Head Start (OHS). The discussion explores the ways Head Start programs are uniquely positioned to deal with the impact of trauma, and approaches programs can use to improve how they serve children affected by trauma. The Head Start Heals campaign is highlighted and efforts are explained to align with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMSA) around the three E’s of the event, the experience, and the effect of trauma. Strategies Head Start programs can use to implement a trauma-informed approach are described and links to the transcript of the video and additional resources are provided.
