Diagnostic Issues Work Group, Interagency Coordinating Committee on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders – 2011

Program from a conference discussing the need to address screening and diagnosis (or referral for diagnosis) of alcohol-related neurodevelopmental disorder (ARND) in primary health care of children. Includes information on the conference agenda and key participants. The conference is organized into discussions of several questions related to ARND. The questions cover such topics as what ARND is and how it is diagnosed (including evidence of neurodevelopmental, behavioral, and cognitive abnormalities), how ARND differs from other fetal alcohol disorders, what prenatal alcohol exposure evidence is needed to diagnose ARND, what symptoms will be useful as screening criteria, and what are the treatment needs of children and youth with ARND. Sections for each question include abstracts of presenters’ research on each issue. Program also includes several case studies.
