Preventing child maltreatment and promoting well-being: A network for action: 2012 resource guide

This guide supports service providers in their efforts to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect, focusing on protective factors that support child development and build strong families. Presents an overview of child-well being and the promotion of protective factors. Contains a chapter that outlines six protective factors: nurturing and attachment, knowledge of parenting and child development, parental resilience (including helping parents deal with stressors such as substance abuse), social connections, concrete supports for parents, and social and emotional competence of children. Explains how to engage community partners in prevention efforts. Provides tips for working with specific groups and describes how to engage the media. Includes an overview of child abuse and neglect facts, and information on consequences, warning signs, and reporting. Contains a number of parent/caregiver tip sheets on a variety of topics in both English and Spanish. Also includes resources for further information.’
