NSDUH Data Spotlight: Teens whose parents have alcohol problems are at increased risk of alcohol use

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality – 2012

A brief summary of data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) on alcohol use patterns among teens with parents who have alcohol use problems. Reports that teens are more likely to use alcohol if they have a parent with an alcohol use disorder. Youths living with a mother or father who abuses alcohol are more likely than the general population to use alcohol and also to engage in binge drinking. Notes the influence of parental alcohol misuse on their children.
