Information from the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being (NSCAW) on outcomes for children and youth with substantiated and unsubstantiated child protective services maltreatment case reports. Data shows that the risks for poor outcomes are similar for both types of reports. Children and youth aged 0-17 years with both types of case reports are at similar risk for developmental, cognitive, emotional/behavioral, and substance use problems. Authors suggest that CPS should consider referrals and services for all children who come into contact with the child welfare system.
