A compilation of indicators that measure the well-being of children and youth in the categories of: family and social environment, economic circumstances, health care, physical environment and safety, behavior, education, and health. Includes data on such issues as child maltreatment and injury and mortality rates and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. Also includes data on adolescent cigarette, alcohol, and illicit drug use. Health indicators include statistics on preterm birth and low birthweight, infant mortality, and child and youth mental health problems. Includes a special section on adoption. Appendix contains detailed data tables and list of data sources.
